Jordan Lane
Sales Professional, Toledo
Toledo Sales Professional Jordan Lane got a “trial run” with Heidelberg in the summer of 2015, working as an intern, prior to completing his degree at Bowling Green State University. Not only did he gain him some experience in the business world while he completed his studies, it also gave him a foot in the door for a potential job once he earned his degree.
“I had a great experience with my internship,” says Jordan. “I got to work with both the beer and wine teams as well as meeting some of our suppliers. I went on surveys with some of the sales pros and a really got a great feel for what the industry was like.”
After graduating from BG in 2016, Jordan returned to Heidelberg, this time as a full-time Associate. One week after completing his degree, Jordan went to work as a sales pro in the beer division and put his prior experience with the company and his knowledge of craft beer to work for him. “I was very comfortable with craft beer,” he says. “Going from what my friends and I were drinking in college, to being able to go into an account and talking about what the trends are was a smooth transition.”
Even though Jordan had the luxury of working as an intern with Heidelberg and was able to get a “sneak peek” prior to starting as a full-time sales pro, there was still a learning curve once he began. “It took a bit of time before I got really comfortable going into an account,” says Jordan. “When you first start out, one of the things that you have to develop is the trust level with the people running those accounts. That just doesn’t happen overnight.”
Going through the sales training that Heidelberg provides to all of their sales professional has helped him refine his technique and has made those conversations with his accounts second nature. “In this industry, relationships are key,” says Jordan. “My accounts know that I have their best interests at heart. It also doesn’t hurt when you have a great portfolio to offer!”
“Jordan takes a customer focused approached to make himself his customers #1 choice,” says Toledo Beer General Sales Manager Ryan Masters. “He has really sharpened his fact based selling to drive good solutions in his accounts.”
In the beer world, sales is not just a 9-to-5 job. If the need arises, Jordan and the rest of the Heidelberg sales pros are essentially on call 24/7 for their accounts. When he does have down time, Jordan, who was born and raised in the Toledo area, likes to workout, play videogames, fish and spend time with his family.
