Heidelberg and CultureShoc

In 2017, CultureShoc and Heidelberg began what has grown into a three year relationship. CultureShoc is a high-performance team and leadership development firm offering EOS®, team building, leadership training and engagement programs.

The CultureShoc involvement with Heidelberg has been primarily with the sales leaders and sales managers across the company thus far. It started with a one sales retreat team building event at Maumee Bay (Toledo area) in 2017. CultureShoc led the team through a half day of energizer team building activities, culture training presentation content and a Team Olympics Challenge on the lawn at the Maumee Bay State Park Lodge.

This grew into the facilitation of a similar half day programs in 2018 for each of the managers’ teams at the Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo locations. Those sessions  were consolidated and nearby managers (Youngstown to Cleveland) joined one of those locations. There were also sessions with the IT managers in Lorain, and Columbus Sales Pros during a celebratory event they held.

In 2019, CultureShoc expanded to test a three session Buffalo Certification Program for the Cleveland and Toledo locations, while still holding one team building session in the Columbus, Cincy and Dayton offices. The three session program was managers training in company culture, leadership, and service to their sales pros and fellow Heidelberg teammates. The format was used to set individual commitments after each session and be accountable to those at the next session, to talk openly about their current issues and find solutions, and to have fun! There continues to be fun team building activities, challenges and energizers during each of those sessions. Participants of the three session program signed their certificate to commit to always “charging into their storms head-on” at the conclusion of the program and were deemed “Buffalo Certified.”

In 2020, there will be a continued program that includes both Sales Managers and Sales Pros, with the intent to improve an already strong culture by exposing them to more team building and training on how to “Be a Buffalo” in their professional and personal lives.

CultureShoc exists to help discover, engage and grow leaders. That’s their mission, and it takes the form of designing & facilitating team building programs, team development training and strategic planning.

The Buffalo mantra comes from the fact the Buffalo in the United States tend to charge directly into storms, while cows run away from storms.  When you run away from a storm, it follows you and you end up in pain for a longer period of time. Charging into a storm can be painful at first, but if you keep moving, you get through it and into blue skies faster. That’s our goal for teams and individuals…to help them get better at charging into their storms to get through them faster…

  • Bringing up issues to the right people as soon as they arise
  • Telling bad news fast
  • Charging directly into opportunities small and large with a plan and an understanding of who you may need help from
  • Being vulnerable enough to ask for help, and proactive when offering help to others
  • Refusing to sit on information that is important for others to know
  • Being bold enough to ask questions when you need clarity, to ask for what you need from your leaders, and to encourage others to seek what they need from you
  • To control what you can control to be part of the solution in any “storm”

PRESENTING THE CULTURE SHOC PROGRAM TO TEAM TOLEDO

HEIDELBERG MANAGEMENT TEAM WORKING TOGETHER BUILDING CORN-HOLE SETS AT GENEVA LODGE RETREAT. UPON COMPLETION THEY WERE DONATED TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FAMILIES IN NORTHEAST OHIO.

BUZZ FROM LORAIN

→ Wine tasting at Bistro 83: Wine Trends sales professional Whitney DeJohn, along with Bistro GM/Chef Tony Martorello and Sommelier Jim Fink, put together a unique wine tasting on March 5. Guests learned the correlation between their Zodiac signs and their wine preferences! A good time was had by all!
