Appreciation Week

May 24-28, 2021, we celebrate Communication Appreciation Week! The Communications Department has shifted through the adversity of this past year with grace, teamwork, and a growth mindset. The challenges of the last year have called for new processes, creative thinking, more emphasis on teamwork, and of course – communication.

This department’s focus has grown and expanded to best accommodate the new or changing needs of our Associates, to continue to offer support to the company’s other departments, and to serve the mission of the company. This team of four is dedicated to elevating the Heidelberg brand identity, to focus on the Associate Experience, and to continue as a department of support and development.

“It’s my honor to work with the small and mighty Communications Department. Thank you for your GROWTH over the past year and adapting to all the changes that have come our way. Continue to strive for excellence.” Kathryn Oakes, Chief of Staff, has led this group through structural changes over the past year, contributing to the growth of the scope of our social media strategy, video production, and associate experience.

Dennis Cook, Associate Director of Corporate Creative Services, manages the Corporate Lion’s Edge Printshop in Cincinnati as well as maintaining Heidelberg brand identity and ensures guidelines are employed through our designers. Also provides support to our four additional print shops and manages, updates and improves the Lion’s Edge order form. Other areas of focus include video production, social media and a variety of digital services.

Kelly Fine, Associate Director of Culture & People, has applied strategy to strengthen our Appreciation Week Programs, which now celebrate each department on the Associate wheel over the course of the calendar year. Other areas of focus include the Years of Service Recognition program, Engagement initiatives, managing the Heidelberg website, and other creative, development-related projects.

Mike VanderWoude, Associate Director of Internal Communication, has brought his expertise of corporate writing and curating industry content to ensure important messages are shared within the entire organization. Mike continues to engage associates with the scholarship program and the newsletter’s feature stories and interviews.

Let’s talk about teamwork! The department gives an honorable mention to Creative Services Associates Patricia Robisch, Corporate Graphic Designer; Seth Holston, Videographer; Nicole Donahue, Graphic & Digital Designer; and Social Media Strategist Abby Hofrichter, who has been working closely with the Communications and Sales Departments to expand the depth of the company’s social media strategy.
