→ Vice President of Fine Wine Sales & Education Mary Horn hosted a “Summer Sips” edition of Sip & Learn on Thursday, August 13. Mary shared the origins of Sangria and Champagne Punch as well as providing a demonstration on how to make both of these refreshing summer sippers! MARY HORN POURS A GLASS OF HOME MADE SANGRIA
DURING THE “SUMMER SIPS” EDITION OF SIP & LEARN.
You may want to save these recipes! Enjoy these Punched-Up Summer Sips.
Summer Sangria
- 750ml White Zinfandel (or off-dry rose wine)
- 3/4 cup Peach Schnapps (or equal parts peach brandy and peach vodka)
- 1/2 cup Orange Liqueur (or triple sec)
- 2 T sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks broken in half
- 1 lemon sliced into wheels
- 1 lime sliced into wheels
- 1 peach cut into wedges
- 10oz Club Soda
- Ice cubes
Mix White Zinfandel, Peach Schnapps, Orange Liqueur and sugar together, stir until sugar is dissolved. Add fruit and Club Soda. Let flavors meld for at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice.
Champagne Punch
- 1/2 cup Triple Sec
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/4 cup Crème de Cassis or Black Raspberry
- 1 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
- 16oz chilled ginger ale
- 1 chilled 750-ml bottle dry sparkling wine
In a bowl combine the Triple Sec, the brandy, the Crème de Cassis and the pineapple juice and chill the mixture. In a large punch bowl combine the Triple Sec mixture, the ginger ale, and the champagne and add ice cubes.
LORAIN
→ Three of Lorain’s drivers jumped into action when a fellow driver needed to go home midway thru his delivery. Chris Johnson, Lance Morgan and Kevin Bullins met the truck and divided up the remaining stops that were left and stayed late to deliver them.

→ Bow Wow Wow Yippie Yo Yippie Yay! Dubbed the “Snoop-Dogg Days of Summer” by Receptionist Sheila Iwanek, some nice displays by “Team Lorain” of the new 19 Crimes Cali Red with Snoop Dogg found their way into the Lorain market.

→ Brockmans Gin is expanding its availability in the US of its namesake brand having adding Kentucky to the list of 22 states that now carry the product. Brockmans is an independent English gin company set up by the founding partners, Neil Everitt and Bob Fowkes. In their words, “The aim was to create a gin so smooth and sensual, you would want to drink it neat over ice”.

→ Wine Trends is excited to bring on two new suppliers and to welcome back an old friend.
Jolie-Laide Wines is a one-man operation based in a Sebastopol winery where winemaker Scott Schultz makes only 500 cases of wine a year under his own label. The name Jolie-Laide translates loosely to “Pretty-Ugly”, a French term of endearment to describe something that is unconventionally beautiful.
Cliff Lede Vineyards was established in 2002 by Canadian born Bordeaux enthusiast Cliff Lede, following the acquisition of a sixty acre estate in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. With a focus on producing wines from estate vineyards, Lede tapped David Abreu, considered to be the best viticulturist in Napa Valley to replant the vineyards.
After an absence, Lange Estate is back in the Wine Trends fold. Founded in 1987, Lange is located in the heart of the Dundee Hills in Oregon. Since the winery’s inception, the Lange family has focused on producing elegant, meticulously crafted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
→ On August 18 in Cleveland Wine Trends are welcomed by famous winemaker and global wine consultant Paul Hobbs for a meet and greet. He also hosted a consumer dinner in the market at Chez Francois in Vermillion, Ohio.

→ Employee Spotlights for August were 19-year Associate Kara Maloon, Forklift Driver; 4-year Associate Josh Hill Swing Driver and Alex Renteria, Order Processor, who started with the company in June of 2020.
